Dolphin
curiosity. . . Human curiosity. . . feel the vibration, observe the
playful nature and close bond of the pod as they glide through their fluid
world. . .and experience something magical.
One of the most exhilarating excursions a visitor to Kona can experience
is a snorkel/swim encounter with Hawaii's spinner dolphins. Our
dolphin encounters are designed to place you in the water in the vicinity
of a pod of
spinner dolphins to observe them in their natural habitat.
This is a thrilling experience
and some have said it can be a very spiritual and life changing event. Dolphin Swims are morning charters and will last
approximately 4-5 hours. Fruit, pastries, bottled water and soft drinks are
provided.
Our adventure begins with a boat briefing and orientation at 7:45 a.m. We will travel north along the Kona Coast until we come upon a
pod of dolphins. After a period of observation to see behaviors the
dolphins exhibit, if it looks good for a swim, we will gear up and slip
into the water.
During the months of December to April, it is not uncommon to observe
Humpback whales and their calves. The permanent resident mammals
along the Kona Coast include Pilot whales, False Killer Whales, Pigmy
False Killer Whales, Beaked Whales, Spotted and Bottlenose
dolphins. Mellonhead Whales and occasionally, Sperm Whales and a
Whale Shark is spotted are spotted near shore.
Note:
Because
we are visitors in a vast, natural and wild environment, subject to whale and
dolphin migration, feeding, resting, and courting behaviors , we cannot
guarantee their sighting. While every effort will be made to locate
these sea mammals, no charter refund is made in the event we are unable to
locate dolphins or whales. We have about a 95% success rate at
locating the dolphins. Swimming near, with or having a close
encounter with dolphins is entirely of the dolphins choosing. We do not
chase, harass, feed, entice with food, or in any other way attempt to alter
their normal behavior. It is against the law to do so.
